This holds true in many situations. Generally, the more well-rounded you are, the better. The more you can relate to others, the better. The more you can speak the same language to different groups within your organization, the better. You might be brilliant in your field, but if you can’t articulate yourself in the language of others, you are limiting your worth to the organization.
