Live Aid was a benefit concert to raise funds for the famine in Ethiopia in 1983-1985. The concert happened 42 years ago. If you’ve seen the movie, Bohemian Rhapsody, the rock band, Queen played at Live Aid near the end of the movie. There were many artists that helped to raise funds. Sade Adu and her band played this beautiful soulful tune at the concert. She was 26 yo at the time. She actually still performs today. Her voice and songs are mesmerizing with heavy influences from jazz, soul, and blues. All of Sade’s songs have this deep resonance and her voice is so smooth and tinged with a silky sad sweetness that almost makes your heart break. As lead singer, she is the heart and soul of the group and her rich, mellifluous voice is inextricably tied up in my bittersweet memories of high school and college and the relationships that were….as well as the relationships that still are today.
