Some say it’s really difficult to communicate with someone when they don’t say what they mean. However, it’s not as common to hear those same people acknowledge that there are cultural communication differences. Western cultures are typically more direct and forthright when they speak. They like a strong handshake and direct eye contact. Eastern cultures are less direct, purposefully avoid eye contact, are what some might consider demure. Many of my friends are Asian America so there’s a complimentary mix of both Western & Eastern, but we still miscommunicate all the time. One of my oldest friends is of German Irish descent and his penetrating communication style can oftentimes cut through the gut wrenching presumptions the rest of our circle of friends make & expose the unsaid for what it usually is - nonsensical, silly prejudicial garbage. Here’s to hoping there’s someone like that in your circle of friends. 🙌🏽 https://www.scienceofpeople.com/cultural-differences-in-communication/
