Other examples of this struggle and dichotomy in Marvel: Blade Ghost Rider Moon Knight More generally, the black and white contrast between good and evil may be more easily digestible, but it’s getting less and less relatable. The world isn’t black and white. As Vitalik points out in the Japanese fantasy movies, it’s the journey along the way, the imperfect understanding, when the characters grasp onto a precarious line of thought that they are doing “the right thing” or something for the greater good. They’ll hold onto it as if this grasped ideal will rectify whatever wrongdoing along the way. And sometimes, it does not. Non-western movies don’t always have neat and tidy endings, but their quest for meaning is more present because of this. In our fantasy movie diets, there’s room for both. 😎
