Before my children were born, I gave serious thought to not allowing the family tree to grow any further. With all the senseless violence and tumult in the world, where it can sometimes feel like it’s devolving or on some downward pendulum swing toward oblivion, would a reasonable person bring children into such a place? What kind of nebulous dystopia would they grow up in? And what injustices would they suffer? All parents, to some degree, must be optimistic about the future - at least in part. So, from one optimist to another, here’s to making the world a better place through small acts of kindness and by raising kids who can do the same, and hopefully a little better than us.
