I recently got a letter that Iβm to be considered for jury duty soon. It made me think about this cast from @thoughtcrimeboss about a month ago. Before this, I had no idea that a jury could effectively nullify the law. This is not presented as an option in any court room where Iβve been considered for jury duty in the past. The judge and the prosecutor are very clear that if evidence is presented beyond a reasonable doubt then a jury has no choice but to convict. I have friends who are attorneys and I plan to ask them why a court does not inform the jury of this. Why present an either or choice (guilty or not guilty) when there is effectively a third option to nullify? Itβs all quite abstruse and convoluted and the jurors are there as part of our civic obligation - not to get a law degree on its nuances or to have a potentially unjust sentence mar our collective consciousness for the rest of our lives.
Has anyone been on a jury and felt bullied into a conviction or otherwise?
