The people making those laws are painting some very broad strokes and in the process, precious details get lost.
As a parent, I can understand the apprehension of exposing children to sexual health ads. Even worse, the AAP conducted a study showing that information is inaccurate over 20% of the time.
There has to be a middle ground, but social media companies have been loathe to put up age-restricted safeguards.
It’s taking landmark trials where YouTube and Meta are actually being held accountable in a growing number of courts around the world. Entire countries like Australia, Brazil, and Indonesia are banning social media for kids under 16.
It’s a complicated conundrum and there’s more to say, but my pro sub is up and my long casts shortened. 🙁
