Reflections From A Frustrated Dev God is in the details and it’s true. Pay close enough attention, be thorough, double-check your work, and it should lead to quality work perhaps even great work. The devil is in the details and this is also true. The smallest, tiniest logic error could lead to disaster. You need only look as far as the vulnerabilities in code that hackers exploit. Some details are not all that small. 👀 I sometimes wax philosophical on days when I’m waist-deep in someone else’s code trying to find out why it’s not working. For the millionth time, cursing the dev who didn’t comment their code enough so I have to infer intent. The sheer lack of substantive documentation on why code is written a certain way is dwarfed only by the ambiguous, paltry, one-sentence response as to what the code Is supposed to do; a microscopic paucity of non-information at the center of a black hole of non-information from the business unit that requested the code in the first place. Yeah. I’m bitterly waxing. And the waxing is good.
