Wild that Huxley wrote this in the 1930s. Eerie that he was able to predict:

• Genetically engineered humans

• Soma = our Adderall, Xanax, SSRIs, and dopamine scrolling loops

• Sex stripped and devalued of intimacy, mandated for social stability (dating app culture)

• Ritualized entertainment that sedates, not inspires (Tik tok brain rot)

• Consumerism baked into identity (losing spirituality and replacing it with buying things to make us feel whole)

always liked the framing of BNW and 1984 that posits that Huxley’s vision is that the things we love/enjoy will destroy us vs. Orwell’s vision that the things we hate/fear will destroy us.

to me it always seemed like the former was more likely.
