5 chapters into Brave New World (no, not the new Captain America with Red Hulk). Wild that Huxley wrote this in the 1930s. Eerie that he was able to predict: • Genetically engineered humans • Soma = our Adderall, Xanax, SSRIs, and dopamine scrolling loops • Sex stripped and devalued of intimacy, mandated for social stability (dating app culture) • Ritualized entertainment that sedates, not inspires (Tik tok brain rot) • Consumerism baked into identity (losing spirituality and replacing it with buying things to make us feel whole)

Are we going to snap out of it or keep following suit? Poor choice of a book to read before bed 😂

One of the few books that was required reading for school that actually fully captivated me. Such a prescient writer. Im a big Doors of Perception fan too.

always liked the framing of BNW and 1984 that posits that Huxley’s vision is that the things we love/enjoy will destroy us vs. Orwell’s vision that the things we hate/fear will destroy us. to me it always seemed like the former was more likely.
