as a babe with silly ideas about numbers, we want to be able to enter the amount of coins to be received and have the paid amount be autopopulated

agreed, I have the same intuitive feeling re: token swaps. unfortunately, specifying an amount of {output token} rather than {input token} is almost always disadvantageous to the end user with most AMMs. and in the case of 0x’s infra, not even supported atm.

AMMs are fundamentally goofy in that you don’t really know with 100% certainty how many tokens you’ll receive for your swap. so, in order for a DEX to give you an exact output of tokens, it’s altogether possible that when rubber hits the road you’ll get fewer tokens than simply using a specific input in the first place. tldr; usually it’s possible but not ideal e.g. if you try it with Jupiter on Solana it’ll issue a warning along those lines.
