Need some advice here. Thinking about getting a used car. Needs to be 4x4 and have a place to sleep. Thinking about F150s, GMC Sierras, 4Runners, Landcruisers, Quigley Conversions, and Toyota HiAces. I know Tacoma is the gold standard, but it’s bed is too small to sleep comfortably. Any thoughts?

Do you just want the space for somewhere to sleep or are you hauling/towing heavy things?

No towing or hauling needed. Would like some space for surfing or fishing gear.

so many options. trucks are so bad on gas, so big now, plus need a topper on it for more $$ (security and weather). I had a silverado I used for hunting and slept in it a bit. The bed was 5'9" so I had to go sideways, it sucks. you're trying to fit stuff around that's square and doesn't really fit around you.

I took our grand cherokee on a road trip to paraglide and slept in it for a week. WAYYYY better. All seats down, use an inflatable pad, enough room to fit lengthwise. Better mileage, secure from animals bugs people and elements. Plenty of storage room, crack the moon roof for ventilation.

I think I’m going to go this route with a 4 runner. Maybe a 4x4 van if I’m crazy.
