@jakerr.eth looks like you’ve got quite the resume yourself. I’m eager to know what you look for. Do you hire outside of your immediate network? I feel like there’s a lot of friend hiring regardless of past skill set in web3, how does someone without the network get a fair shot coming into the space?

I’m currently on the hunt for something in the marketing / events space of web3 and in the past I’ve made cute creative resumes, but I’m starting to think hiring is more of a network based thing. Who you know gets you in the door. Any advise on this?

Referrals are a great way to hire, particularly for early-stage startups (not just web3) where communication and trust need to be established quickly.

But in general, no recruiter wants to hire 100% referrals. We always want to build a diverse team and a strong resume will go far. Working on open source projects, side projects, participating in educational programs, DAOs, communities, etc. shows passion and interest in the space.

Doing research on the company and demonstrating that through interactions with the team go a long way. There’s this idea of “proof of work” – show that you’re putting in the work, showcase that publicly, and it’ll be obvious you’re a strong candidate.

Events, meetups, and conferences do go a long way towards building relationships in the industry -- I've hired people I met at an event, but never would have found them / they never would have found us. If you can find IRL opportunities, it can help expand your network and get a foot in the door
