i think if you think something is "interesting" that is a good enough reason to work on it even if it does not seem important, just being interesting i think is enough i think people working on things they are interested in can lead to them working on something they are interested in that is actually important but even if it doesn't i think a world in which lots of people are working on things that they are interested in is a better world than the alternative i am just formulating this perspective now as it just occurred to me $QR for example is not that important, at least not above my threshold for what is important, which i would imagine is higher than a lot of people, but it is genuinely interesting to me it has been enjoyable challenging working on it i hope it leads me to doing work that i feel is more important but if not, at least i am getting to work on something i find interesting
