@jake
it is interesting to see some of the most lindy things getting threatened all at the same time
alcohol is one, gold is another
so when i think about lindy now i somewhat ironically place a huge premium on recent years
if simple lindy treats all years as equal, you could call this advanced lindy or lindy+ or something
so for example, something that survives 15 years today (like Bitcoin) is much more lindy today in my opinion than something that survived for 15 years 500 years ago was when it was 15 years in, because the rate of change per time is much faster now and arguably/roughly getting faster every year
gold and alcohol are still way more lindy than Bitcoin but largely because they both have the last 15 years in their favor PLUS thousands of less valuable years prior which even though they are less valuable still add up
the takeaway from this mostly is that more recent things like Bitcoin or The Internet are much more lindy than the time they've survived would suggest due to how hard it is to survive weeks, months, and years let alone decades here in the 2000's
all of that said, i think another key to lindyness is the survival over multiple generations, and we are not turning over generations any faster than we were historically, so that's an element to consider as well, but for example surviving 100 years and a few generations from 2000 to 2100 i think will be worth more in lindy terms than something that survived for 1000 years 2000 years ago, or something like that
