I started my career as a business reporter. Around 2015, in the lead up to the Paris climate summit, I was covering a lot of sustainability announcements. So I started reading a lot of climate papers ā both science and policy ā to figure out how to properly contextualize a 100% renewable pledge by this or that company. I quickly realized sustainability stories were not the big fish to go for, and once Trump won the election my beat expanded to cover more science and policy. Around 2018 I got really interested in direct air capture. This caused a lot of left wing greens to criticize my work because they considered carbon removal a āfalse solutionā due to its energy demands. So I got interested in how to get as much clean energy as possible. Turned out my business background made me better suited to energy reporting anyway. The rest is history.
