i was skeptical seeing it listed as their #1 top movie rn on the app but this reasoning makes much more sense as to why lol

So honestly, the worst part is Gal and the fact that they had no originality in the costuming department whatsoever because it legit was the same as the 1937 film. (almost had to say 1960’s) so I looked it up to get the right date. When it comes to tyranny though versus being able to choose kindness and compassion that hits hard and rings true especially right now.

i can't bring myself to even pretend to try and watch all the shot-for-shot remakes. it's just pure laziness from disney imo. there's no way they ran out of ideas haha. there's a slight smidgen of chance that i'll consider watching toy story 5 when that comes out 😭

There are few new ideas on this planet if you look hard enough at any plot line it’s just a remake of something else. Yet my biggest guess is they wanna make sure that the stays out of Public Domain and stays in Disney’s bags. Mind you this is just speculation

Ahhhh yes. That seems right. I do know that they preemptively changed the Disney Animation logo a while back to include Steamboat Willie driving the boat to be able to trademark it as part of the logo because they knew the copyright for that specific character/episode was going to expire eventually

I mean, isn’t that a little too late it’s public domain now or are they gonna come after us for using it? I know people have and they’re pretty good representations.

Depends what they’re doing with it. There’s a difference between trademarks and copyrights. Logos/brand names vs artwork/designs/music/etc. Trademarks can be renewed in perpetuity I believe while copyrights do have an end point. The Steamboat Willie in the public domain is only the one 1928 version and Steamboat Willie ≠ Mickey Mouse. If you do Mickey Mouse things, a different version of Steamboat Willie, or call Willie Mickey instead, and try to profit from it, they can still come after you for trademark or copyright infringement depending because they still own those things. There’s always parody law and being inspired by something, or doing “studies” to learn, and you’ll be ok usually, but trying to mimic anything Disney exact sounds too scary for me lol. They have a history of not being shy about going after the little people.
