If a platform’s default feed is run by an algo, what’s the point of spending time building an audience there?
What feels weird is how “viral” now often just means “it blew up in a day.” That’s not real, bottom up sharing, that’s the algo choosing to push it. It’s basically top down, like radio or a record label deciding what becomes the hit.
Real virality takes time. People pass it around because they actually want to. That sort of sharing surfaces better stuff, not just slop. And when the feed is mostly slop, people open the app less, and the platform gets worse.
Bearish on algo feeds.
