Good evening š š The name of the picturesque village Ponta do Sol, with a population of just over 4,000 people, can be translated as āSun Point.ā According to legend, the name dates back to the time of the islandās discovery, when JoĆ£o GonƧalves Zarco, sailing nearby, reached a point from which he saw a cliff said to be the color of the sun. Literally, āPonta do Solā means āthe point where the sun sets.ā
