Algebra's history begins with the ancient Egyptians and Babylonians, who developed methods for solving equations. However, the modern form of algebra is largely attributed to the Persian mathematician Muhammad ibn Musa al-Khwarizmi, who lived in the 9th century. He is considered the "father of algebra" for his work on systematic methods for solving linear and quadratic equations.
