The truly fucked part? These aren't lazy or stupid people. They did exactly what they were told. Got degrees, showed up, followed orders, saved for retirement. Now they're 45 with a mortgage, kids in college, and their entire skillset is worth less than a ChatGPT subscription. Some try to "reskill" - taking coding bootcamps or digital marketing courses. But they're competing against AI that learns faster than they ever could, and against younger people who grew up native to this world. Most end up in the gig economy death spiral. Uber driving (until that's automated), TaskRabbit furniture assembly, Amazon warehouse work. Physical presence being the last moat. Income drops 70%. Lose the house. Pull kids from college. Marriage stress. Deaths of despair spike. The social contract - work hard, play by rules, get security - revealed as a lie. But the real kicker? Society won't even acknowledge their disposal. They'll be called "lazy," told they should have "learned to code" or "been more entrepreneurial."

Mass unemployment isn't politically tenable, so we'll get bullshit make-work programs. Universal Basic Income that's barely subsistence. Social credit systems. The dealt-out majority living marginal lives while the thinking class leverages AI to become unimaginably productive and wealthy. This is what happens when you build a civilization on the premise that most people should shut up and follow orders. Eventually, someone builds a machine that follows orders better.
