DePIN

Unlike DeFi, a significant portion of DePIN activity can happen offchain ...and unless the DePIN has implemented and is reaching some forms of consensus, I would argue that DePINs need DA (data availability) as much as L2s

🤔 We currently use /arweave for this in the M3tering Protocol, a permanent log of all activity in the protocol, but for must projects (including M3tering), I think a @celestia or EigenDA might suffice.

Maybe I should reconsider my expectation that DePIN needs to achieve some form of consensus. 

But without consensus, we create a need to trust participants in the network, or a coordinator of some sort, which isn't what DePIN is about. 

It's would be entirely impractical to expect DePIN devs to not use any off-chain components when designing these network applications. But then for DePINs to truly become trustless and permissionless, they would have to learn a lot from the design of L2. 

Perhaps that is the endgame of every DePIN, a permissionless off-chain app-specific network, settling token incentives back to it's host blockchain. In other words, an L2.

I definitely share the concerns, there are many limitations imposed by physical infrastructure, that eventually need one or more oracles. That said, I think this is very interesting:
