Would it be possible to let users select actual text in casts on mobile? There is this tendency in mobile apps to prevent selecting text. Many SNS apps like that, as well as web sites (used to it in a country where a lot of text has been *images* for decades to โ€œprotectโ€ copywriting IP).

Thank you, yes. I target single words. Like when I donโ€™t understand clearly what a word means. E.g. solipsism, serendipity, ersatz, umwelt, zeitgeist, homeostasis, gestalt, democracy, shanzai, ad hominem, reductionism, gerrymanderingโ€ฆ On iOS text, long tap a word and โ€œlook upโ€ is often super helpful.

nice list! for sure, copy and paste into a quick app like Drafts not too bad but def extra steps. I too have wondered how apps prevent normal text selection. also I wanted to mention the longtap bc I didnโ€™t know about it for a long time ๐Ÿ™ƒ

In a cast or such kind of โ€œsoftware containerโ€ developers can ask the system how to react to events like long press, etc. Here the events seem consumed by the cast, and not passed down to individual โ€œword objectsโ€, if this jargon makes sense.

the similar constraint that surprised me at first was streaming video apps that blacked out screenshots

Indeed of the same kind! Although here it seems unintentional, or just extra work for later (in fact this is some more code and test time on a small team).
