In a new essay, Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin talked about a method to accelerate transactions in the blockchain using technologies that could potentially reduce the confirmation time in L1 from a few seconds to milliseconds. It implies a transition from the current slot mechanism (a 12-second period when the validator accidentally includes a block in the network) and epochs (32 slots) to a single-slot finalizing system.
