Lately I've been spending more time poking around in the nooks and crannies of FC to curate overlooked writings that I think merit further attention (and richly reward deeper attention) but probably got buried-by-engagement-algo. I'm keeping a list and considering future ways to share them that might do them justice.

Hey @danicaswanson 👋 - on this theme, I'm working my way through @hyp's excellent essay from a few days ago on perspective/constraint: https://warpcast.com/hyp/0xfc090e46

It’s a bit of a theory becoming a book. 2 parts so far laying groundwork on key terms, next will go into how it all fits together to show maybe a more mathematically robust view of intelligence, evolution and consciousness.

I think so to. Well, at least from what I know so far. Curious. Will you be reflecting 😁 on GEB and strange loop?

Yes, in many ways I feel like this is a modern version of GEB, but expands to take on some relatively new concepts like context windows and how recursion and causality happen across scales. Lots of other theories to pull in, including Free Energy, but I think this says a bit more about this not just as a theory of consciousness but of systems evolution across scales.

There wasn't much of a definition of causality back then, but Judea Pearl has changed that, but the notion of a Godelian problem with being an observer of patterns within the pattern itself still holds. Anyways, I'll touch on that. Issue now is that I've published some aspects of this, so I'll need a fresh, 10k word take.

Just as language models needed to get astonishingly large to emerge as the LLM phenomena we're witnessing today, we suspect that scaling up homoiconic modeling may well contribute to similar emergence for symbolic AI. If that's distributed and holonic, then that feels suitably biomimetic.
