I’m waiting until my trip to Japan later this year to get my first pair. Which do you recommend?

It really depends what you're looking for, personally i look for somewhere around 15oz, unsanforized, washed, slim straight, if possible unique fabrics or a combination of them If Tokyo is in your itinerary, i suggest going to Hinoya retail shop, they carry a very wide range of brands and staff is very helpful. One thing to take note, their in-house brand is Burgus Plus. If you're in Osaka, kinda home of the raw denim purists are born here, Samurai, Studio D'Artisan, Fullcount, Evisu, Warehouse, Denime, Yamane. If you're in Okayama, hailed as denim mecca, you can go to Kojima Jeans Street, there you can get Kapital, Pure Blue Japan, Momotaro, Japan Blue, Big John. Momotaro in Kojima Jeans Street has hand dying activity and a few others that i can't remember, you can try checking it out first.
