The U.S. government has asked the Supreme Court to not review a case where Coinbase users challenge the IRS's demand for their crypto transaction records. Assistant of the U.S. Secretary of the Treasury, D. John Sauer, argued that James Harper doesn’t have a right under the Fourth Amendment to protect his financial records held by Coinbase. The IRS began investigating cryptocurrency income in 2016 and found many users owed taxes on bitcoin transactions, leading to Coinbase sharing user data.
