Most #BitcoinL2 rely on multisig bridges and things you have to just trust. Alpen doesn't. It uses Bitcoin for both consensus and data availability.  

Every state transition is proven valid. If it's in a Bitcoin block, it's final.

It unlocks stuff Bitcoin just can’t do on its own. You can build repeat payments, borrow against #BTC, set up vaults with rules, or offer gasless UX. Alpen lets you do all that without custodians, while still settling everything on Bitcoin.

The bridge is the core piece. A "1-of-N" optimistic-ZK bridge where BTC is locked on-chain, and anyone can prove state. No honest majority, no centralized party, no multisig drama.

During the testnet, Alpen will run on a private Bitcoin signet and use signet blocks to store state commitments, not full state data.  This setup makes it behave more like a commit chain than a real rollup. Full onchain data and Bitcoin mainnet support are planned later.

With this setup, you're not limited to static BTC transfers. You can build vaults that delay withdrawals, accounts with monthly spending limits, stablecoins backed by real BTC, transactions with built-in privacy, even instant payments where double spends can be caught and punished. All of this runs like regular EVM apps, but with Bitcoin-level security underneath.

Dev-wise, Alpen runs Reth (Ethereum execution client). It keeps full EVM compatibility. Any Solidity app, infra, or tool works. You just swap ETH security for Bitcoin.
