We used to celebrate uniqueness and individuality and in that individuality we built diverse, empathetic, tolerant, and supportive communities. Now we have a thing called individualism which is a supposed god-given ideological right to be self-righteous, hateful, loathsome jerks towards each other and to fear individuality like a virus.
