Mercedes-Benz, widely known as Benz, began in 1886 when Karl Benz built the world’s first gasoline-powered car, the Benz Patent-Motorwagen. Around the same time, Gottlieb Daimler and Wilhelm Maybach were creating advanced engines under Daimler-Motoren-Gesellschaft (DMG). In 1901, one of their cars was named Mercedes, after the daughter of investor Emil Jellinek, and the name stuck.
In 1926, Benz’s company merged with DMG to form Mercedes-Benz, adopting the iconic three-pointed star that symbolized dominance on land, sea, and air. Over the years, Benz became a global symbol of luxury, innovation, and safety, introducing features like airbags, ABS, and crumple zones.
Today, Mercedes-Benz blends its rich heritage with modern technology through its AMG performance line and EQ electric series, continuing its legacy as one of the world’s leading luxury car brands.
