I'm not that old πŸ˜‰ but I remember all these phones as a kid! call the operator and they were connecting you the other place. My grandfather had one of them at home.

We had a party line as a kid for a bit. Basically shared the same line with the neighbors (my uncle). Was weird, we could call each other somehow. Not sure how that worked

You had to turn the handle on the side of the phone it was generating some voltage so the other side started ringing and they pick up the phone. It was before we get the rotary dial phone
