Even if we fulfill all human material needs, like with a hypothetical luxurious UBI, people will still attempt to one-up each other in the status game in ways no longer tied to resources. In a sense, status is more persistent as a driver of human behavior than literal survival needs.

Humans have free will. That's stands us out from the rest of the animal kingdom. Animals act based on instincts, which help them to survive, adapt, and evolve Free will allows us to choose what direction that we might want to follow towards a greater unfoldment/evolution, the pace, both individually and collectively
