Anne Under the Eye of Compassion (2009)
This work is my visual lament for Anne. Through pastel on wood, I sought to transform historical trauma into a moment of spiritual refuge. I asked myself: Where was the compassion in her suffering?
I chose to portray Anne not in her torment, but in her release. She is held in the serene, watchful gaze of a divine presence—embodied here as the Buddha. Between the abstract shoreline of memory and a sky of mourning, this piece is a gesture of healing. It is a space where her soul is finally witnessed, honored, and held in infinite peace.
