In 2007 History was officially removed from the basic education curriculum (primary and junior secondary) when the Nigerian Educational Research and Development Council (NERDC) merged it into Social Studies. In 2019, The Federal Government approved the reintroduction of History as a standalone subject into the basic education curriculum. In between that period of time, the Nigerian government edited history, only approving textbooks that claimed that Islam in Nigeria was "historically non-violent". They of course brazenly ignored history books written long before 2007, primarily because Nigerians don't really read. No one will ask questions.
