i'm weak in this topic but could one build hyperliquid as an L2?
it kinda "fits" the purpose of L2 then – in this case hyperliquid would be a chain that is application centric.
Base tries to be "culture" centric – though I'm much more biased to Solana's "founder" centric position (they do help people directly more often), but there are many other L2s that try to be L1s (with purpose dispersed over everything, and finally serving nothing).

Yeah pretty much anything could be an L2 if it stores source of truth state on an L1. That could slow down finality though but I think there are workarounds
