The Congress of Vienna reshaped Europe for nearly a century. It established the Concert of Europe, a system where major powers cooperated to suppress revolutions and preserve stability. Though conservative in nature resisting democracy and nationalism it kept large-scale war at bay until World War I. Ironically, the very forces it tried to suppress, like nationalism in Italy and Germany, would later reshape Europe entirely.
