This exemplifies the major tension in early stage biotech Most investors don’t have the attention span to play the long game that most “deep” biotech truly requires And so you almost incentivize the “Theranos Playbook” where the majority are riding waves of severely unsubstantiated hype in order to get funding and grow, or working on less complex, potentially less critical problems that don’t require as much capital Elizabeth just did it a little bit too well She wasn’t the problem, she was just a highly visible symptom of the situation
