📘 What is Ikigai?
From “Ikigai & Kaizen: The Japanese Strategy to Live a Long, Purpose-Filled Life”

Ikigai = “That which brings benefit to life.” Or more simply:
Your reason to get out of bed in the morning.

It’s not a job title.
Not a hustle.
Just a deep pull toward something meaningful.

🌴 Why Okinawa?

Most Japanese folks don’t use “Ikigai” in daily speech.
But in Okinawa, they live it.

They don’t even have a word for retirement.

A 102-year-old still practices karate.
A 100-year-old still fishes 3x a week.
Because they want to.
Because they can.

Okinawa is one of the world’s Blue Zones.
Ikigai might be why.

🧠 Survive vs. Thrive

“Your brain exists to help you survive, not to thrive.”

We juggle two minds:
🧠 The lower mind wants comfort.
🧠 The higher mind wants meaning.

Ikigai is where they meet.
It aligns survival with purpose.

Not about climbing.
Not about legacy.
Just doing what keeps you alive inside

This Idea comes from a Guy named Albert Camus , Camus uses the figure of Sisyphus forever condemned to roll a boulder up a hill, only for it to roll back down as a metaphor for the human condition. Life, in its absurd repetition and seeming meaninglessness, mirrors Sisyphus’s fate

Camus argues that once we become aware of the absurdity and still embrace life without appeal to false hope or meaning we find a kind of freedom So when he says, “One must imagine Sisyphus happy,” he’s saying that in the very act of defiance and acceptance, Sisyphus finds dignity and joy.
