Neil Gaiman's *The Sandman* comics shift between Morpheus, the Dream King, and humans crossing paths with him or his godlike siblings. Netflix's first season stuck close to this style, but showrunner Allan Heinberg noticed TV audiences didn't connect with the format as deeply.
