I don't doubt all of this is true for Joan, an excellent writer, but in my experience it's really hard to get very niche jobs in tech without your network. A lot of roles simply aren't openly advertised and if you do find out about a role, you can't get an interview unless someone vouches for you. It sucks, but I get it, some things are too niche.
