Banks usually don't offer services to poorer people they can't profit from,  whereas digital wallets don't discriminate - often you just need access to WiFi... so crypto can be a way to provide upward mobility in countries like Nigeria and Venezuela.

I too hope he gets foisted by his own petard (as in crypto will eventually works against his insanity)

Also, crypto might be protection against Trump. I think it's likely that he's actively trying to devalue the dollar to encourage US exports... so by holding BTC, ETH you can preserve your wealth to a degree.
