Not married. Not planning to get married. Would much rather have kids and take my missus on a couple of extravagant holidays. First world problems.

I can see how for some it might act as a deterrent and force them to try harder in a relationship. Maybe I just got lucky with my missus - cannot see spending my life with anyone but her. I still don’t need the unnecessary label. My kids are far more of a deterrent from splitting than a marriage would be. This is MY personal social construct.🤭

If you own your house together and either of you dies do you inherit their portion tax free? It can be a bigeee. Custody rights, guardianship etc become automatic…im guessing they have to be applied for in non marital situ? For me it just meant i tried harder and didnt flounce off 🤣😋

Aside from being exempt from capital gains and inheritance taxes, I see no other legal benefits. In due course  “cohabiting” parents will end up gaining same rights, driven by the continuous fall in number of marriages, at least in the UK. It’s at something like 10-20% per annum at the moment, and dropping.
