when I open a mini app inside of Warpcast on the web, I get this prompt. Why am I not already signed in? this feels like really weird UX and many would be confused about what this means or why they need to do it. It's not a transaction.

yeah, it sucks. but the reason is that your identity is an Ethereum wallet and the key is on your phone. not your key, not your identity

yeah. I wonder if there is a work around as I just don't need or want this kind of extra auth when I'm already inside of Warpcast. I suppose if you brought the wallet functionality to the web, you could verify without leaving the site.

Wouldn’t passkeys backed up in personal cloud system solve this? Like my passkeys on my Apple cloud backed up for my phone in computer? I would assume that same can happen with the Google.

Why Passkeys aren’t a panacea

1. Passkeys are password-less credentials built on Webauthn. The OS companies — Apple, Google and Microsoft — are responsible for their implementation

2. For most users, Passkeys are usually stored in the OS vendors secure cloud, eg iCloud, to sync across devices. 

3. This means that you need to have devices from the same ecosystem — a Mac and an iPhone — for sync to work

4. Naturally, there are plenty of people with a different mobile device vs. computer.

5. Further, OS vendors have been inconsistent with the various features of Passkeys they implement, eg Apple did largeBlob and Google did PRF.

6. Would expect this to take a few more years at a minimum before all the consumer UX kinks are rolled out.

Yes, this is why we were so excited about passkeys a year ago. If everyone used iOS, Mac and Chrome, they would work great. But there are many small gotchas that make it unusably bad for most people, especially if you use a mobile phone and computer from different ecosystems.

Any user with multiple os system (phone n computer) would have a password manager per device then. 

I get that is a concrete ux design problem thou but so is 

username / password “password12345678”

Im not saying its trivial ux but login with your other device (i ve seen that on discord, tiktok, threads)  + “make this connection secure (aka create a new passkey on the new connection device) shall work. Indeed this requieres talented designers and passkeys is not sexy so not happening “soon ™️”
