The hacker in the "SEC X account theft case" earlier this year was sentenced to 14 months in prison 26-year-old Eric Council conspired to commit identity theft. The identity involved belonged to an SEC employee named "CL" who had access to the agency's X account. Council impersonated CL to control their phone number and thus control the SEC's X account. His co-conspirators eventually paid him $50,000 worth of Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies
