Why is "lake effect" snow only produced near the shoreline of the Great Lakes?
Check out the snow produced in the mountains of northern Japan by a similar process. Produced by winter winds crossing the Sea of Japan and Sea of Okhotsk and encountering the mountains of northern Japan (Hokkaido area).
