Azerbaijan is a state in the eastern part of Transcaucasia (South Caucasus) on the coast of the Caspian Sea, belonging to West Asia and, according to some sources, partly to Eastern Europe. The population, according to estimates for 2024, is over 10.18 million people, the territory is 86,600 km², and it is the largest country in Transcaucasia by both these indicators. It ranks 88th in the world in terms of population and 112th in terms of territory.
