In 2004, I would be appointed (once again) by President Bush to serve on a Commission to advise Congress and the White House on the future of NASA, which led to this report: At no time was basic Science viewed as an expensive luxury in need of a chainsaw

Yeah, take a look at most of the 'basic science' being conducted in many of our universities today and funded by taxpayers. 🙄 I understand the methodology has to allow for often-granular work, but the blank-check-all-science-is-important doctrine is not going to fly with us
