I don’t know how many Marxist/Dem Socialists we have on FC, but there’s a convo I want to have (rather in person but):

It’s presented by Bernie/Zoran/etc that there needs to be zero billionaires because their wealth should be redistributed.

I heard someone else say “what if everyone was a billionaire?” 

I don’t think either are going to happen exactly (no billionaires vs all billionaires), but the decision sets if you make one or the other as the GOAL is fascinating, and I’d love to have that convo with people of many different viewpoints!

If we are all billionaires then none of us are billionaires in a capitalist system. If there are no billionaires there is a better chance at a more equitable distribution of resources. Billionaires have too much individual power and by existing they tip the scales of inequality and perpetuate the zero sum game that is unadulterated capitalism.

Are you open to a future where technology does lead us to a form of utopia? 

Or what is the solution that you want to see?

Yes I see a future where all my needs and wants can be met but that doesn’t mean everyone is a billionaire, it just means everyone is in a techno-utopia where money has ceased to be defined/function in the same way. Billionaires matter us because we can compare what we have to what they have. If everyone is a billionaire there’s no need to compare anymore and there’s no need to use the label billionaire at all. In the world you describe this word ceases to mean the same thing it did, along with many other talking points and concepts from the left and right. 

I don’t think technocrats will lead us to this future tho and I don’t think billionaires should be able to wield the power they do and hold more wealth than one person could ever reasonably spend

But what if technology allows the pie to grow so much that having a billion doesn’t actually get you that much more than less than that? 

I’m not talking about what’s happening now, I’m talking about what’s possible. Are you open to that future?
