The iridescence of the white-faced ibis comes from feather structures that refract light, not pigment. In direct sunlight, its plumage erupts into purple, teal, and gold. 📷 Leslie Scopes Anderson

My friend worked on this species during his student days and I am familiar with their presence in nature: The last wild white stork was seen in Belgium in 1895. It was seen in Sweden in 1955, Switzerland in 1950 and the Netherlands in 1991, but it was then reintroduced to many parts of Europe and its conservation status changed from Threatened (NT) in 1988 to Least Concern (LC) in 1994. Now, despite conservation programs, the population of this species in Europe has stabilized and is in good condition.
