Aurora boreal in Madrid 🌆 !!.....Recent solar activity has led to the appearance of unusual northern lights around the world. This photo 📷 is taken at the Navacerrada pass in Madrid (@alvariteus on X). An aurora begins with a solar storm, a burst of energy from the Sun 🌞 releasing solar wind, made up of electrons and protons. When this wind reaches Earth 🌎 , most of it is deflected by the magnetic field 🧲 , but some particles are funneled towards the poles along the magnetic lines. As these particles ⚛️ collide with atoms and molecules like nitrogen and oxygen in the atmosphere, energy is released as light. Oxygen creates green and red colors, while nitrogen results in blue and violet 🎨
