Honestly, there was something off to me about the final bit of Outlive. I still think it’s a fantastic bit of science writing and I think they’re a bit negative about that in this piece and that is unfair because it’s about how individuals interact with the science…
But bro totally sold out and the fact he was with Epstein when his kid was born is mind-blowing. Another example of trauma making people try hard and that whole thing not making us better.
FWIW I stand by my engagement with the science around this and while saying that, I will say in the same breath that Dr. Attia is almost certainly hiding more nastiness than he is admitting here.
In addition, I will not be writing about him anymore after this or showing him any support beyond not deleting the sections of my book that deal with his work. We have AI to assist with translational medicine now. We don’t need to prop up little tin pot millionaires to get insight into our health, and when we do, it ALWAYS ends badly - that’s the thing that’s really noteworthy here in my view.
